Elizabeth E. Powers: U.S. Intellectual Property Law

1-12 April

Course description

This series of four lectures provides an introduction to U.S. law, with a focus on current intellectual property law. We begin with an overview of the U.S. legal system, so that we can put the IP laws into a legal framework. We will discuss general U.S. intellectual property law, and current case law in each of the four broad areas of intellectual property law: patents; copyrights; trademarks; and trade secrets.

Classes will focus on specific intellectual property laws: copyrights; patents; trademarks and trade secrets. For example, we will cover current court cases in patent protection of software and business method inventions, as well as current trends in pharmaceutical/medical inventions. This will be an interactive class, including in-class exercises, so that we can discuss the comparison between EU / Romanian intellectual property law and U.S. law. Thus, students who are familiar with EU / Romanian intellectual property laws are encouraged to take this class.

This promises to be a dynamic and interesting course.
